Candon City, Ilocos Sur - Hon. Congresswoman Kristine Singson-Meehan, representing the 2nd District of Ilocos Sur , delivered a passionate speech,  highlighting the vital role of educators and outlining her commitment to supporting their efforts during the Kick-off Program of the 2024 National Teachers Month at Candon City Arena, Sept. 5.

Congresswoman Singson-Meehan began by acknowledging the significant contribution of Senator Edgardo Sonny Angara in establishing the Ilocos Sur Medical Center, a satellite hospital that provides essential healthcare services to the community.

She then echoed the words of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos, Jr., stating, "Teachers are the foundation of an Educational System," underscoring the extensive impact teachers have on shaping the minds and futures of the nation's youth.

Representative Singson-Meehan went on to emphasize the importance of legislative efforts aimed at improving the lives of teachers.

She highlighted key Senate House Bills, including the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act (HB11997), the Career Progression for Public School Teachers (HB 10270), and other bills recognizing the considerable sacrifice of teachers in going extra miles to deliver quality education to all. These bills, she explained, are designed to ensure teachers have the support and resources they need to thrive.

She  also emphasized the crucial partnership between teachers and the Department of Education in implementing government programs. This collaboration, she said, is essential for creating a strong and supportive learning environment for all students.

Concluding her speech with a heartfelt "We honor you, we celebrate you," Congresswoman Singson-Meehan expressed her deep appreciation for the dedication and hard work of teachers.
